This is a Ph.D. level course that covers essential topics of soft matter physics, including polymeric and colloidal solutions, elastic soft matter, surfaces and surfactants, liquid crystals, thermal fluctuations and Brownian motion, and flow of soft matter. We closely follow the textbook authored by M. Doi as referenced below. A comprehensive knowledge of thermodynamics and elementary statistical physics will be necessary as prerequisites to this course.
