A nanotube-based molecular motor designed by our PhD. students

Our unique  PhD programmes, the first of their kind in Iran, were started in the Spring of  2004. At present we have 7 PhD students (three female and four male)  attending  the specialised  pre-project courses and  taking advanced topics in computational modelling techniques, statistical mechanics, physics of critical phenomena and physics of nano-structures. Following the completion of this course, the students will begin their  research thesis. The current research fields that are covered in our PhD programmes are:

1) Modelling the construction and dynamics of nano-scale  motors, and bio-motors.

2) Combined meso- and nano-scale modelling of the stochastic dynamics of biomembranes .

3) Modelling  the mechanical, thermal,  electronic and optical properties of carbon   nanotubes.

4) Modelling the tribological , adhesive and fracture properties of nano-crystals.

5) Modelling thermal and fluid  transport in nano-scale systems.

6) Modelling the conduction properties of molecular nano-wires.

7) Modelling  the properties of electronic packaging materials.

8) Multi-scale modelling of solidification phenomena

PhD supervisions are provided by our own staff members, and when necessary our  students will spend a period of time at a relevant laboratory abroad.  Close collaborative ties exist between our department and sister organisations in Britain, Japan and  Poland.
